Join us to kick off the Annual Fiesta de los Penasquitos and celebrate the many good things we enjoy in our community. There are no entry fees for this outstanding event and nothing to buy. Just come out and have fun doing an unofficial 5K followed by breakfast hosted by the Penasquitos Town Council and the Penasquitos California Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Runners and walkers, young or old, are all welcome!
The starting line will be at the LDS chapel on Black Mountain Road (12835 Black Mountain Road, San Diego, CA 92129). We will be running or walking to the finish line at the LDS chapel on Camino Del Sur (14191 Camino Del Sur, San Diego, CA 92129) in Rancho Penasquitos.
The run will be followed by a free breakfast in the outdoor pavilion, including pancakes, bacon and fresh squeezed orange juice.
We hope to see the San Diego Fire Department at the finish line again this year with a fire truck for the kids to see up close. They will be there at approximately 9:00 a.m. unless they are called into duty.
PQ5K Community Service Project
The service project will be a school supply drive for elementary schools in the area that serve low income populations. We are looking for supplies such as notebooks, pencils and pens, colored paper, colored markers, colored pencils, crayons, glue, tape and stickers. Donations can be made at the start or finish line of the event and are much appreciated.
Event Information
The PQ5K Community Fun Run and Walk is on Saturday, June 25, 2022. We hope to create an atmosphere where you will feel safe, welcome and comfortable. Here are a couple of brief highlights:
- Online Registration: Registration will be conducted primarily online. Please encourage friends and family to do as you’ve done and register online. We will still have onsite registration but hope to reduce lines in the process.
- New Bib Pick-up: A new bib pick-up will be available on Friday evening, June 24 at the starting line from 4 to 8 pm. Bib pick up is still available on Saturday morning before the race, but we invite you to stop by quickly on Friday evening to confirm registration information and receive your race bib if possible.
- In-Person Registration: If anyone in your group is unable to register online, please print out the registration form and have them bring it with you to reduce lines at the start.
- Opening Ceremony: Opening ceremony will be at 7:30 a.m. as in the past. You can join a wave any time between 7:45 and 8:30 a.m.
- Free Breakfast: Breakfast will be served buffet style at the finish line as in past years and with servers to assist you at each station. Remember, we serve fresh squeezed orange juice along with pancakes and bacon!
- Complimentary Shuttles: We are increasing the number of complimentary shuttles running between the finish line and the starting line that will be available between 6:30 and 11:30 a.m. This service is to help you get back and forth safely between the finish and starting line so that 5k doesn’t turn into 10k.
- Parking and Transportation: Participants are responsible for their own transportation. Limited parking is available at the finish line and participants are encouraged to carpool or use the parking at the starting area. Courtesy shuttles will be available from the finish line to the starting line from 7:00 am to 10:00 am This will provide a convenient option to get back to the starting line either before or after the event if you do not have other transportation options. Child and infant car seats are not available. If the parking lot fills up at the finish line, drivers will be asked to drop off passengers, park at the starting line and take advantage of the shuttles as needed.
- Course Difficulty: Moderate. The course is mostly downhill (with some steep uphill at the end).
- Course Length: The course length is approximately 3.1 miles (or 5k for you experienced runners and walkers).
